Quick tip: GIMP Recent Files Artifact

Posted by

I wanted to quickly write a post to share some information that I found while performing an examination on a Windows 10 system. The system has GIMP 2.10.0 installed on it and I needed to find out what images had been opened by the program recently.

To find this artifact you need to browse to:

Windows: C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local
Linux: ~/.local/share/

And look for the file named: recently-used.xbel which is just a normal XML document. This document isn’t unique to just GIMP and contains a recent history listing of all files opend by software the run under the GTK based applications like GIMP or Inkscape.

Hope this helps someone. Let me know in the comments.
